Four Warbands

It's Friday, and I'm just waiting for the chance to get to play some D&D Miniatures.

Here are the four warbands I've brought along today:

100 point - Lawful Evil
  • Urthok the Vicious (34 pts, Cmdr 5)
  • Scarlet Brotherhood Monks x3 (20 pts each = 60 pts)
  • Goblin Skirmishers x2 (3 pts each = 6 pts)

I created this warband simply because I love the Scarlet Brotherhood Monks and wanted a warband to take advantage of their strength. Urthok gives them that needed melee attack bonus, as well as being a tough commander, and the Goblin Skirmishers allow a minor ranged attack if needed (say, against a dwarven defender).

200 point - Lawful Good

  • Paladin of Torm (51 pts, Cmdr 5)
  • Stone Golem (134 pts)
  • Dalelands Militia x2 (7 pts each = 14 pts)

I have a Stone Golem, I wished to use it. That's the basis here. The Paladin of Torm, being Fearless and relatively tough, was the preferred commander. The Militia again give a ranged attack option - I expect the Stone Golem to do the bulk of the fighting.

500 point - Chaotic Evil

  • Drow Cleric of Lolth (42 pts, Cmdr 5)
  • Nightwalker (393 pts)
  • Abyssal Maw x3 (5 pts = 15 pts)
  • Ghast x2 (25 pts = 50 pts)

The Nightwalker is a terrifying figure. I've used it in one game (in a variant of this warband), in the Dreaded Beast scenario. It is definitely Dreaded! I think the Ghasts will make this warband quite interesting. The Abyssal Maws will just do some cheap damage (probably against an Eye of Gruumsh) before dying horribly.

225 point - Chaotic Good

  • Mordenkainen the Mage (69 pts, Cmdr 3)
  • Moon Elf Fighter (49 pts, Cmdr 5)
  • Clay Golem (56 pts)
  • Greycloak Ranger (15 pts)
  • Halfling Ranger (23 pts)
  • Aramil, Adventurer (13 pts)
  • Wolf (minion)

This band is designed with the Dreaded Beast scenario in mind - two 225 point warbands against a 500 point warband with a single Huge figure that must be slain. I also want to use the Clay Golem for the first time - thanks to Ant Brooks for sending it to me!

Fair melee attacks, fair spell attacks, and a couple of useful ranged attacks should make this warband an interesting proposition to play.

Of course, I'm unlikely to use all four warbands today - I only got one battle in last week, and that was the first for the past month! - however, I should have fun!
